Breaking: Mississippi State Fires Head Coach Zach Arnett

Zach Arnett's Tenure Ends Abruptly After Underwhelming Season

Former Defensive Coordinator Unable to Turn Tide at MSU

In a shocking turn of events, Mississippi State University has fired head football coach Zach Arnett after just one season at the helm. The decision was announced on Monday, February 27, 2023.

Arnett, who was previously the team's defensive coordinator, was elevated to the head coaching position in December 2021. He inherited a program that had struggled in recent years, finishing with a 3-9 record in 2021.

However, Arnett's efforts to turn things around fell short. The Bulldogs finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 5-7 record, failing to achieve bowl eligibility. The team also struggled academically, with several players facing suspension due to eligibility issues.

"We want to thank Coach Arnett for his contributions to the Mississippi State football program," said athletic director John Cohen in a statement. "He has worked tirelessly since being named head coach and has been a great advocate for our student-athletes. However, after careful evaluation, we have decided to make a change in leadership."

Mississippi State is now actively searching for a new head coach. Arnett's firing is a reminder of the high expectations and competitive nature of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
